In the summer I really try to get the kids outside as much as possible. Living in a country that experiences all the seasons, sometimes summer just feels so short. It often seems like there is never enough time to do all the adventures you would like to do. In April I made a bucket list for all the day trips I wanted to do with the kids. Today we headed to Treetop Trekking.
About Treetop Trekking
Treetop Trekking, is an outside adventure park that has activities like zip lining, aerial course, GPS Rally’s and more. There are 8 locations throughout Ontario, however most of them are a reasonable drive from Toronto. We decided to go to the one located in Binbrook, ON. It is about an hour drive from Downtown Toronto. They have activities catered to every age, from toddlers to adults so definitely suitable for all families. My girls are 2 and 4 years old, my niece came along as well she is 7. We had a lot of fun hanging out at the Treewalk Village.
Purchasing the tickets was fairly easy, you just go online and select a time slot. Bonus tip if you’re a first responder you get 25% off for your immediate family, but you have to call in. When you purchase the tickets an e-mail will be sent to complete the waivers. Each child needs to have his or her own waiver completed individually, making it a little time consuming. I recommend having that all completed before leaving the house. Once we got there, I provided each of our names and we received matching coloured wristbands. I loved that part and I noticed different families had different colours. Each booking gives you 2 hours are the Treewalk Village. The tickets include parking for the adventure park and the conservation! So if you wanted to check out Binbrook Conservation (which you definitely should) you have the opportunity to do so.
Treewalk Village
The concept of the Treewalk Village is really cool. There are a 5 or 6 tree houses that are connected by bridges that are all fully enclosed and the foot paths are either different sized wood, or netting. Parents are allowed to go in the treehouses. If you have kids under the age of 2 you can carry them or guide them if they are steady on their feet. There are red and green squares at each bridge to let the kids know if they are able to cross that bridge. I’m assuming that is to help reduce traffic in the bridges, Kalani (2) did not understand that concept fully, but she just followed what the older girls were doing.
The Verdict on Treetop Trekking
It is impressive how high you are off the ground, but my main concern was if the 2” x 4” plywood was going to hold mine and the kids bodyweight! Safe to say by this post I am still here. The kids were nervous walking across at first. I went through the whole thing course with them 3 or 4 times, then they were ready to explore themselves. Some of the tree houses have slides to come down and there are two different ways to get into the treehouses. Once they comfortable with the course they were playing tag and hide and seek all over the village.
My absolute favourite part was how it felt like we were in our own little forest just submerged in nature. The sitting area throughout the village was placed perfectly, allowing you to be able to always keep an eye on the kids. I sat down on one of the picnic tables and enjoyed my ice coffee, while the girls were exploring. Also worth mentioning is that the entrance to the village is gated and a worker is stationed there just in case a little one tries to escape.
Learning Outcome
I love outings where I can see the spark of learning something new in my girls eyes. Today the tree-wee obstacle course brought it out. The course consists of balancing beams made of wood that are slightly suspended in the air. Even though the girls are familiar and active with outdoor activities like the park, this was new and a bit of a physical challenge. Each time they started the course I could just see their confidence build a little more. Once they started racing and creating games with each other I knew that they
Reccomendations
You are allowed to bring in your own food so I recommend packing a lunch and having a picnic there. Two hours is plenty of time to enjoy all the obstacle courses and still have some lunch with the kids outside. The kids were ready to go after about and hour and forty-five mintues. My niece wanted to explore more of what other kind of obstacle courses they had for her. Her being 7 years old she would be able to do one of the other courses like the Discovery Kids course.
I would absolutely recommend this activity to anyone with 3 years old and up, they will have a blast being outside. You are in nature, surrounded by lots of the trees making it do-able on a hot day. It was 29 degrees and they did not complain about the heat once because we were in the shade the whole time. They got to use their imagination, role play and just have fun. I loved watching them explore outside. So if you’re not sure what to do, or if you want to go out for the whole day then check Binbrook conservation out as well. They have a beach and picnic areas, a splash pad, trails and you can rent some boating to make it a whole day of fun.
With kids playing outside we all know that eating is the hardest thing to get them to do. So I recommend loading up on the snacks. One of my staples items for outdoor activities in the are these thermos waters bottles. They are my favourite because I am able to fill it up with ice and water prior to leaving the house and the ice will keep the water cold even after multiple re-fills. Then I brought some easy finger food, watermelon, cherries, a few granola bars and a pack of cheesies. They would run around and then come for a snack and the back to running around.
Final Thoughts
I’m actually excited to head back over for a date night with my fiance to try the zip-lines and aerial trek, it looks so fun. On our way back to the car I saw a few couples who had just finished an adventure. They recommended to definitely come back and try it out. So once I went home I told my fiance that is what I’m picking for our next date night.
Full disclaimer: I did not get anything for this review, this is 100% my own opinion. I just know as a mom sometimes it’s hard to think of fun things to do with the kids and that what I’m here to help you do. Don’t forget to check us out on social media and if you want to see more check out our vlog from the day at Treetop trekking.
